Rigidity of software is nice. It enables classify our information.
Freedom of handwriting is nice too. It enables entering any information.
The right way must connect both approaches. It must be strict, if structure of data is defined and must be free, because sometimes user just needs enter information, which is unexpected by analysis. Crase is prototype software which is trying follow this way.
Crase enables entering/displaying
structured information about anything. If user wants enter
structured information, he enters metadata, which describes
structure of information.
Metadata define object categories, attributes, links across objects and
object display. Entering metadata is wery simple - in average
about 5 lines of script. Next versions of Crase will offer graphical
user interface for entering metadata. How metadata look like and how
they are transformed in functionality is illustrated on
this page.
Through metadata Crase can be switched in different applications: Personal Database, Small Library Management System, Software Production System, Personal Accounting System, Product Comparison System, Web Pages Evidence System, Information System about Crase Metasystem!, Nearly Anything and in short future Anything.
Crase is designed even for running without metadata definition. So user can first enter data and then define metadata. User needs enter data as they comes, not define their structure first and then remember what data were. In addition, this feature enables simple transformation of metadata, because data can stay without metadata, while metadata are transformed.
If there are some features, which are out of curent metadata functionality, user can extend functionality through script - named behavioral metadata in Crase. Scripting is typically 20 rows of simple code.
At present time is the development at halfway. Curent state can be named pre-pre-alpha, prototype, version 0.5.0.0 - which is number of current release. Important is, that Crase is working and enables modelling of different systems - problems from this gaming with Crase are taken in evidence and transformed in new features ...
